DAY 1: NAIROBI

Upon arrival in Nairobi - the Kenyan capital, you will be met by a Lowana Tours representative and transferred to the hotel for an overnight stay.

DAY 2: AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, you will be driven to the natural wonderland of Amboseli National Park arriving in time for lunch. Mount Kilimanjaro, the still-glaciated monarch of Africa presides over Amboseli, thrusting three dizzying miles above the park’s grasslands. As Peter Matthiessen wrote in The Tree Where Man Was Born, “A snow peak in the tropics draws the heart to a fine shimmering painful point of joy.”
Overnight: Amboseli Sopa Lodge (L, D, B)
Discover the iconic Amboseli National Park, well known for its large herds of big-tusked elephants. A scenic park in its own right, Amboseli is synonymous with glorious views of Mount Kilimanjaro. The name “Amboseli” comes from a Maasai word meaning “salty dust”, and it is one of the best places in Africa to view large herds of elephants up close. Nature lovers can explore five different habitats here ranging from the dried-up bed of Lake Amboseli, wetlands with natural springs, the savannah, and woodlands. The park is an excellent place to view the Big Five, as well as lesser-known and rare wildlife species.

DAY 3: AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

Enjoy early morning coffee & tea served with light snacks before departing for a pre-dawn game viewing drive within Amboseli before returning to the camp for a full breakfast. In the mid-morning, you have the option of visiting an authentic Maasai Village and thereafter, returning to the camp for lunch with a relaxed afternoon before embarking on another late afternoon game viewing drive and a sundowner at Observation Hill within Amboseli, returning to the camp after for refreshing, dinner and overnight.

DAY 4: LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

Early pre-breakfast game viewing drive in search of the predators and grazers. Extra exit game viewing drive as you leave Amboseli. Proceed on the cross-border drive into Tanzania. There shall be a stop for immigration formalities at the Namanga (Kenya / Tanzania) border town. The scenic drive is via Maasai country, distinct climatic zones and social regions. Lunch shall be at the Arusha town of Tanzania. Proceed to Lake Manyara for game viewing in search of the famous tree climbing lions and large flocks of flamingos. The Lake Manyara national park is small and scenic.

DAY 5: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Early morning game drive in L. Manyara followed by breakfast then proceed to Serengeti National Park viewing game enroute on your way to Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge for lunch followed by afternoon game drive. Return to your campsite for dinner and overnight.

DAY 6: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Morning and afternoon game drive in the Serengeti with a lunch and leisure break at Serengeti Serena lodge in the mid afternoon .The term ‘serengeti’ means endless plains in maasai language. In the central plains there are carnivores like, leopards, hyena and cheetah. This park is normally the scene of the annual migration of the wildebeest and zebras, which occurs between Serengeti and Kenya’s Maasai mara game reserve. Eagles, Flamingoes, duck, geese, and vultures are among the birds that can be seen in the park, Dinner and overnight in your campsite.

Serengeti National Park is a World Heritage Site teeming with wildlife: over 2 million ungulates, 4000 lions, 1000 leopard, 550 cheetahs and some 500 bird species inhabit an area close to 15,000 square kilometers in size. Join us on a safari and explore the endless Serengeti plains dotted with trees and kopjes from which majestic lions control their kingdom; gaze upon the Great Migration in awe or find an elusive leopard in a riverine forest. Or perhaps see everything from a bird’s-eye view and soar over the plains at sunrise during a hot air balloon safari. Accommodation options come in every price range - the sound of lions roaring at night is complimentary.

DAY 7 & 8: NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA

After early breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro Crater arriving at Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge in time for lunch. After lunch, descend 2000 ft. (670m) into the crater floor for full day crater tour with break for lunch at Ngoitoktok springs picnic site. Black manned lions, rhinos, buffaloes, elephants and other grazing animals abound. Evening game drive, return to Ngorongoro wildlife campsite for dinner and overnight.

DAY 9: DEPARTURE

After leisurely breakfast drive to Arusha which takes approximately 3 hours and you will arrive in time for early lunch (11:30) at Shanga River House (www.shanga.org). If time permits you will have a short walk for coffee tour also have the opportunity to see the beadwork made by the workers at Shanga before transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your homebound flight.
Shanga was founded in 2007 in Arusha, Tanzania when a local resident made a handful of fabric necklaces for a Christmas Fair. Combining local fabric with beads and her sons' marbles, she created a unique necklace that sold out within hours. The days after the fair were busy with - orders coming in for the necklaces from safari companies and gift shops. Shanga, the Swahili word for bead, was born.
